Children receive books for their home libraries at regular intervals. Part of the Families for Literacy program, Even Start meets regularly once a week in The Learning Center at the library.

James O. Jessie Desert Highland Unity Center - These programs partner with the Palm Springs Recreation and Parks Department and consist of an after school homework help program, a program for children who need to improve their school performance and a program for adults who want to improve their reading and writing skills.

Volunteer - Volunteers are needed to tutor adults in the literacy programs. Volunteers receive complete training, materials and support. No special skills are required, just a desire to help someone improve the quality of their life.
