Local News and Obituaries - Select items of local interest have been indexed by the library since 1983. Some earlier items are included, but the index is not complete prior to 1983.
To obtain copies of articles or obituaries from The Desert Sun, or other local publications:
--Access the NewsBank service on this website. Full text articles (printed in The Desert Sun later than October 1, 1999) are available free of charge. If you are accessing this site from outside of the Palm Springs Library, you will need a valid Palm Springs Library card. Note: when entering your library card number, enter a dollar sign, plus all the numbers on your card. Example: $000009999.
--If you do not have a Palm Springs Library card and cannot visit the library in person, you may access The Desert Sun'sNews Archive where articles are offered in full-text for a fee.
--Copy and research services (for fees, see below) are available directly from the library's microfilm for all years of The Desert Sun (beginning in the 1930's) , and for items printed in publications not available in the online databases.
Please note that the library does not maintain a complete index of any local periodical. If a citation for the item you are seeking does not appear in our database, you may want to contact these local publications directly:
If you are searching for a personal name or obituary, try using the last name only.
If too many results appear, limit your search by including a first name after the last name and a comma.

If no results appear, searching for a property name, street name (excluding "drive," "street," etc), celebrity occupant surname, or architect surname may yield additional results.
For obituaries, send name of the deceased and date of death. For other items, include citation data gathered from the news search page. Original Research
Fee = $50.00 per hour
If you cannot utilize archival materials in person, original research is billed at $50.00 per hour. Original research is defined as such on a case by case basis by the Reference staff. It generally entails researching questions that require more than a quick look-up.
