The Palm Springs Public Library, working with the Desert Institute at Joshua Tree National Park, presents "Desert Bloom: Wildflowers of the Coachella Valley" with speaker Katie Barrows at 6:30 p.m. in The Learning Center (TLC), seating is limited.Overview: The desert is a land of scarcity and abundance, sometimes dry and barren and sometimes awash in fields of colorful wildflowers. Katie Barrows will lead you on a visual walk through the flower fields of the Coachella Valley, sharing information on the natural history of our desert wildflowers, their strategies for coping with a desert environment, and some identification tips. We will talk about some of the Coachella Valley’s most rare and unique species and efforts to preserve them. Biography: Katie Barrows is a botanist and 20 year resident of the Coachella Valley. She has worked for many years on conservation and habitat planning for endangered species, including several endangered plants found in the Coachella Valley. She teaches desert plant identification courses at College of the Desert and works as the Director of Environmental Resources for the Coachella Valley Association of Governments.
